Synchronism by Reva Sharp
August 24, 2006

Full "real" update is now there.

August 21, 2006 part 2

In exactly one month, I, Reva Sharp, will be turning 21. And unlike some people, I will not be making the Internet pay my tab. Okay, so the odds of me even having any drinks on that day are slim to none, but I still had to take the opportunity to slam Phil. But speaking of that, there's now an official Synchronism drink over on the I'm Just Drinking wiki. Created by forum-member Tyler.

I'll be back at school once again in a week. Although I didn't build up a buffer like I'd hoped over the summer, I should still be able to keep up with the updates. Since, if previous semesters are any evidence, school + part time job is still a hell of a lot easier than full time job + part time job (aka this summer).

Fun facts: when I first started Synch, the coffeehouse the Weave is based on did not have wifi and the arcade the Cade is based on was still open. Since then, the coffeehouse has gone wireless and the arcade has closed. It seems Leetstown is just one step ahead of my town.

Also, if you happen to live in northwestern Pennsylvania (unlikely) and belong to N.F.G.'s Credit Union (more unlikely), be looking for a drawing by me on your 2007 calendar.

August 21, 2006

Snakes on a Synch! "Serious" comic or not, sometimes Internet memes just can't be helped. Especially when dealing with movies as awesome as Snakes on a Plane. The actual second half of the page will be up later this week.

...As will a longer newspost. Someday I'll start writing stuff down when I think of it, rather than trying to remember what I was going to talk about when typing up newsposts at 2 a.m..

-Reva-

August 14, 2006

Late update due somewhat to laziness, somewhat due to realizing I could work on it this morning and still update fairly early (as I'm done with work for the summer :D ).

Despite my plans for going to Otakon falling through this year, I still got the chance to hang out with fellow webcomicer FlamingKinkos last week, which was very much awesome. Although, our attempts at real-life sketchbattling did not go quite so well (though that is likely moreso because we've battled so many times in the first place...)

Did I mention I'm done with work for this summer? :)

Current side-projects still include my submission for Warren Ellis' Rocket Pirates, along with a drawing of the building my mom works at for their company calendar next year.

And, because I've forgotten this every newpost this summer: Sound of Strength Compilation CD. It's a Straight Edge compilation I did the artwork for a while back for Toefur (my awesometastic webhost).

-Reva-

August 7, 2006

Not much new around here at the moment. I actually got this week's update done decently early, and since this is my last week in Summer Job-land, there's a vague (very vague) possibility that I'll get my buffer back before I go back to college.

I'm also working on a submission for the new Warren Ellis-curated project, Rocket Pirates. It's probably a one-in-a-thousand shot, but my list of concepts and ideas for stories ain't doing any good stagnating in a notebook.

P.S. Join the Forums :) -Reva-

July 31, 2006

As ever, the many many ideas that strike my brain on a daily basis have not ceased. However, I'm going to try and start following through with a few of them. Next on the list is a still-secret project with FlamingKinkos, which doesn't really have an expected release date, as it was thought up months ago, and hasn't gone anywhere, due to my own slacking/being-distracted.

That's pretty much all there is this week.

July 24, 2006

This past weekend has marked 4 years since I started my first webcomic. Wow. Where would I be had I never done that? Well... for better or worse, I at least know I wouldn't be here updating this newspost. So, uh, here's to making it another year while still retaining some of my sanity!

For those that haven't seen it yet, the full WCCA ceremony is up here. The much-deserving Five Ways to Love a Cockroach won for Outstanding Use of Infinite Canvas, so a congratulations to them, and a be-sure-to-check-it-out to everyone else. As for the ceremony, I did the presentation for "Outstanding Writer," and make a guest appearance in Phil's closing ceremony. I'm not sure how the rivalry between Zach and I got switched over to Phil, but I've no hesitation to taking on multiple rivals. Much love to Ryan Estrada as well, for all his last-minute work to get the ceremony up.

Remember to check out the forums, for comic discussion and whatever else. Last week's curren issue thread turned into a discussion of possible Synch merchandise, so if you have any ideas of your own of stuff you'd like to see, feel free to keep up the comments.

July 17, 2006 - Thoughts not best thunk at 1 a.m.

The current discussion about self-promotion going on at Comixpedia has got me thinking the past few hours or so. I tend to fall into the trap that Kris pointed out. Although I don't necessarilly shy away from talking about my work, putting actual confidence or pride into it and being extroverted about it is a fault of mine. Part of this is probably just from being generally annoyed by lousy artists who are really egotistical. I never want to come off like that, and even when I am proud of a piece of art, that's just one person's opinion (mine). I don't want to look egotistical when showing it to anyone else.

However, the discussion got me thinking about it from some different angles. Namely, that I can show off my work without being a show-off. So, from now on, I'm going to try to promote Synchronism a bit more, but trying to do so without giving anyone the impression that I'm God's gift to webcomics. Because, let's face it, I'm far from that. But I'm pretty sure I at least have the right to go after some more traffic, same as has been done time and time again by other comics.

And, the other part of the discussion was about creator's blogs/newsposts. Like this one. I know this isn't on the main page of the site (and so it shall remain), but I'm going to try to post a little bit more here with what's going on in Reva-land. At least in terms of comics/art-projects I'm working on (don't worry, I promise to steer clear of anything boring and stereotypically-livejournal-like... should I actually post anything of that nature, it would be in my actual livejournal. Of course, I won't post all of my ideas for future projects, because a.) there's a lot of them, most of which won't ever get done and b.) I like to keep things secret :) But regardless, here goes...

Webcartoonist Choice Awards. The ceremony goes up later today. I was nominated for the Outstanding Use of Infinite Canvas award, and also did the presentation for the Outstanding Writer award and made the award banners for each category.

Rumor has it, Phil Kahn will be getting his revenge on me in the ceremony. And for those of you that haven't been keeping up with that, there is still a Reva vs. Phil and Zach rivalry going on, which started a couple weeks back when I announced my vague sinister plans for SMBC, (check then SMBC archives).

In other way-far-ahead projects: Synchronism t-shirts. I don't know if any would actually sell, but I have a screenprinting kit I need to break out, and can print on-demand, should there be any demand. I've got a bunch of possible design ideas, which I might post later. Also, this is still way off, but there's a possibility of me bringing back The Epilogue in print form. I'd probably be redrawing all the current strips, and adding the few storylines that I had written but never got around to drawing. I can't see myself actually having the time for that, though, until the end of the year.

July 10, 2006

Wow. Synch is now 6 months old, and while that's not considerably long compared to most webcomics (or even compared to my previous comics), it's by far the longest I've gone while keeping up a regular update schedule.

I had a writing streak yesterday, so while my buffer of advance comics is still non-existent, I have the next 6 weeks or so planned out at least.

Possibly more newsposts to come later this week.

-Reva-

July 5, 2006

Rumor has it, SMBC got hacked.

July 3, 2006 - Epilogue or no, I'm still gonna quote books

"Why the unhappy hereabout usually chose the bridges for their meditations in preference to a railing, a gate, or a stile, was not so clear." -Thomas Hardy

-Reva-

June 26, 2006 - Slant rhymes are still for wusses

I've already anounced this a few places, but I've officially openned up Square One, a gallery for webcartoonists (and anyone else, really), to showcase a drawing from their childhood, alongside a current rendition of the same subject. So, please check it out, and if you're able, submit something yourself!

In other news, I like architecture. Or drawing it at least, as time-consuming as it may be. Of course, I really should learn some more about it, as most of todays were done from memory and are probably missing some vital elements. But oh well, who needs total realism anyhow?

More newsposts later this week? It's possible. But for now, I can't remember anything else I meant to post about.

-Reva-

June 19, 2006 - although he's long since stopped bugging me...it's enef!

I apologize for the late half-update. But having something new early in the day counts, right? ...right?

First of all, as some of you already know, and I'm still quite shocked over... I'm up for a WCCA. "Best use of Infinite Canvas." ...wow. I've been watching the awards for the nearly 4 years I've been involved in webcomics, and although every year I've probably been a small bit closer (with various old projects), I still didn't expect anything this year. So a big thank you goes out to my fellow webcomicers who nominated me.

Speaking of Internet fame, I actually got a quote on bash.org. +5 geek points for me. (oh, and it is a true story)

Forums are still here. Joining and posting is the cool thing to do.

If you aren't already listening to Tally Hall, you really should be. And here's a wallpaper I did as fanart for them.

I also deny all claims of Zach and I's supposed "galivantations."

-Reva-

June 12, 2006 - take that, writer's block

Well, that's the last time I wait until Sunday afternoon to script the next day's comic. The last minute drawing, I can handle. But forcing oneself into writing dialogue is a bit trickier.

The May Tattoo Design Challenge over at ComicThrash has also been extended through the end of the month, so there's also still time for that.

-Reva-

June 5, 2006 - Enef almost had a cameo

First off, a huge welcome to those who followed the link here from Scott McCloud's blog. "Wow" is still pretty much all I can say about that. Being linked by McCloud is a huge honor.

Also, congrats to Sketch Samurai, winner of last week's lineart drawing.

New projects to be revealed in the coming weeks :)

-Reva-

May 29, 2006 - hey look! no enef!

Sorry about the late strip, I was unable to upload yesterday due to server issues beyond my control.

And since I might as well, I'm going to do another contest for the lineart of today's strip. If you'd like to be entered, just shoot me an email at revathetoonist@hotmail.com and sometime at the end of the week I'll draw a name and send the winner the page. And because I didn't add this bit the last time: Mom, please don't try to enter this time, you've already got your share of Reva art still on the fridge ;)

Also, to anyone out there who also creates webcomics, be sure to check out the Webcartoonist's Choice Awards. The nomination round has recently begun.

And one last reminder: the May Challenge over at Comic Thrash will be ending soon, so if you're planning on entering your original tattoo designs, get them in quick!

-Reva-

May 22, 2006 - I laugh in the face of Continuity errors!

If any of you reading this are fellow webcomic artists, or artist in general, be sure to check out my LiveJournal post from earlier this week for details on a new project I'm starting up. And to the same group of readers, if you're interested in tattoo art at all, please visit Comic Thrash to see their May Challenge, which involves a series of people looking for artists to design tattoos for them.

-Reva-

May 15, 2006 - nope, no enef

I start a full-time art internship tomorrow morning, so here's to a summer full of art all day, art all night, and a hell of a lot of caffeine :D (

(more of a newspost to come after my shift tomorrow. For now, I sleep)

-Reva-

May 8, 2006

Let me just say... I'm not so egotistical as to think that people are gravely disappointed or upset when there's not an update on time. However, I committed to post every Monday, and although it's still technically Monday, it's horribly late and not much worth the wait. I appologize. I plan to redraw/rewrite this as soon as I get a chance.

May 1, 2006 - Happy Birthday, Zach! (#17)

What an ironic day for Forumer to get hacked, eh? But seriously, who the hell hacks a site, only to use Comic Sans on it? Really now (though it did inspire me to use comic sans for the hacked version of Karma's blog in today comic... even though it's distorted enough you can barely read it). Anyhow, for now, you can still get to the Synch forum by using the following link: http://synch.1.forumer.com/

Also adding a Buzz Comix voting button to the newspage tonight. I don't want to clutter up my front page, so it'll stay over here. You can click the button to vote once per day. Doing so would be pretty cool.

-Reva-

April 24, 2006 - Layout secrets

A congrats goes out to Anthony C., who won the orignal art drawing for last week. Keep watching, because I'm going to try to do something of the sort every few weeks.

Because I've been forgetting about this for a while now, thanks for the kind words and links goes to Moralicide (an excellent comic who you should all definitely check out) and It's Not Abuse It's Love (which my also be an excellent comic you should check out... haven't gone through the archives yet :S ). Also be sure to check out Bear River Junction, if you haven't already.

And now I go back to drawing some more. Doing comics for class projects may sound like a good idea, but when it gets down to the last few days, it's usually regretful. That is, when you wait until the last few days to start it. It's times like this I wonder how Ryan Estrada can do such long drawing 'marathons'... My old theory was that he could draw in his sleep. My current theory: he secretly has 4 arms.

April 21, 2006 - trouble in...

Entries for the drawing are now closed. I'll be emailing the winner shortly.

April 17, 2006 - ...and still no cameo for enef

Was a bit busy this weekend, and didn't have the time to color the second layer. It'll be coming, though. But for now, enjoy the lineart. And speaking of the second layer of lineart... who wants it? I've been planning on randomly giving away originals for a while, but the past few have sort of looked like crap (before i fixed them up in photoshop). But this one I don't mind being seen by other eyes. So... if you're interested, shoot me an email, and at the end of the week, I'll draw a random name and send you the art (you don't have to email your address initially if you don't want, I'll ask you for it if I pick your name).

I go back to school tomorrow, so I should hopefully be back into my regular routine of updating. That is, until the realization that I've been procrastinating on various projects all semester kicks in...

-Reva-

April 10, 2006 - and still no cameo for enef ;P

I should probably get around to archiving the older newsposts, huh? Ah well, I'll get to that... sometime.

Also, be sure to check out Comic Thrash. There's continuous comic jams and challenges going on all the time. Current challenge running is for character expression sheets. And pretty soon there may be a tattoo design competition going as well.

April 3, 2006 - Happy Birthday, Oreo!

Maybe if I hadn't procrastinated doing this comic so long, I would have had more time to find things to write about here. But alas, all you get is a comic ;)

-Reva-

March 27, 2006 - high score

Drawing from weird angles is just so much more fun than drawing from normal angles.

I also command you all to check out Panel-A-Day: Astray. True to the title, the creator puts up one panel each day, and has quite the suspenseful story started, along with some kick ass black and white art.

-Reva-

March 20, 2006 - Rail Trail

I should actually take my time drawing hands more often, shouldn't I? Though to tell the truth, close-ups on hands are insanely easier than drawing them from a distance, especially when from crazy angles.

-Reva-

March 13, 2006 - Am I being to blatant? Nah...

You know, for as much as I dreaded Professor Tomache's drawing class my first semester here, at least I can now draw myself a damn decent set of stairs (even if most the first set got covered in word bubbles)

-Reva-

March 6, 2006 - What's his name? It should be Riley. Riley Conner.

So, last week's comic was drawn on a scrap of Bristol I had from a printmaking project. I suspect I'll soon be switching back to it for all my stuff for Synchronism, as going back to drawing paper this week was a bit painful.

Don't forget to check out the forum. I really appreciate any feedback that can be given. I don't mind criticism either. And also, in each new feedback topic, I'll be trying to add some extra little stories related to the comic or what it was inspired by, etc.

I'm not sure how many people here would be interested in this, but so far, I really recommend a book called Connected that I'm reading for a philosophy class. It's not a tough read, and is almost entirely filled with references to sci-fi/cyberpunk and hiphop. It's also got a lot in common with the trains of thought that lead to starting the comic.

Oh, and I think this is amusing as hell.

Well... looks like I actually had a lot of stuff to ramble about today :S

-Reva-

February 27, 2006 - Make that another Strawberry Teablast

Eep. It's a good thing I've got the week off from classes, as this was the first time I've really cut it close in completing the update.

Just a reminder that I've also got a Livejournal which I post in whenever there's a Synch update or if I ever have any random mid-week stuff I feel like posting (comments on comics, art stuff, whatever). And while you're at it, remember to check out the forum as well. I sure do like feedback, and hopefully will eventually have a decent-sized forum community built up (which will surely grow if you... yes, you... join :) )

I know I've been reading a few more new comics that I meant to link here, but I'm currently on my parents' computer, so I don't have my bookmarks.

-Reva-

February 20, 2006 - Down on 4th

Well, that buffer of comics I had at one point has been demolished. But I'll be home from college next week and hope to do some catching up. Not to mention how much inspiring for Synch my hometown has already done.

I Am A Rocket Builder is a great new webcomic from the creator of Cavemonster. Definitely worth the read, and has an awesome concept.

Also, I got this piece of art from Raymond Cobbs of Neo Rampagia (after he lost a Superbowl bet to me). If I ever actually get a guest art/fan art section going, that will be there.

February 13, 2006 - i won't be subtle just this once, it's Sherwood Anderson

S'been a busy week here in Synch-land. Including many new hits from multiple sources. So I really should thank those who have linked me, from Zach at SMBC (why I'm linking that, I can't quite say; since I do believe a majority of my readers now came here from there :) ) to the kind words of dragonmuncher at the Snarkoleptics LJ Community.

There's also been some very interesting discussion going on at the Webcomics Examiner involving experimentation and innovation in webcomics.

Oh, and did you hear? Mad World is back!

February 6, 2006 - Podcasts = addicting

Although it probably looks like otherwise, both parts of this week's page are drawn by me. But somehow in the gap of a few days, I straightened out some things both in my line widths and scanning/resizing process. So, needless to say, I'm a lot happier with the bottom level than the top.

January 30, 2006 - "Who knows where thoughts come from, Joe. They just appear."

Synchronism Trivia: Russell was left nameless for quite sometime, when one day I openned up my spam folder to find the name "Russell Cade" in one of the subject lines. It was an omen, I guess.

I'm going to be in the 4th season of SketchBattle, which starts on February 6. So be sure to check that out when it comes time. I also started up a LiveJournal account for some of my extra art stuff or comic rants, etc. (but I'm not going to draw Batgirl, dammit).

That's about all for now. I've been a bit busy, but still haven't totally lost my buffer on the comic. So I'm still doing a lot better than I had on previous comics. So at least I've got that going for me, heh.

-Reva-

January 23, 2006 - If you want to know, what's behind the show...

Welcome to all those who hopped over here via the link from SMBC (and a thanks to Zach, for supplying said link).

Once again, I have a feeling that my classes for the semester are going to contribrute to my writing/drawing. The art classes for obvious reasons, but also a class called The Philosophy of Technology, which is going to cover a lot of things that will tie in with this whole plot thing that's going to develop here eventually. ...Think I could add any more vague foreshadowing here? Nah...

-Reva-

January 16, 2006 - Those shades... they're as silver as Sterling

Not really sure how I'm going to format these newsposts thing. They'll always be on this page, but I don't know if I'm going to have an archive of old news or what. But for now, just leaving old news right up here.

A big thanks goes out to Fenris over at Aikida for linking me this past week. And while you're at it, be sure to check out the webcomics encyclopia project over at Comixpedia.org.

Also, moving back to school this week (Monday, actually, being the reason this is being posted this early). Hopefully I'll continue to keep up my buffer. But I haven't lost any steam yet, so hopefully classes and "work" won't get in the way.

And, once again, be sure to stop by the forum, to let me know what you think about the comic so far.

I hope, eventually, I have more things to say in these posts.

-Reva-

January 9, 2006 - Go ahead and Go back

And so it begins...
Because I'm still experimenting a bit here, I'm not quite sure how much I want to be giving away at a time. So for now, I'm not revealing any more than is already there, whether it be hidden or not.

Also, feedback is highly appreciated, especially as I'm just getting into the routine of things, so feel free to shoot me an email or head on over to the forums.

Although my update schedules is most definitely going to stick to Mondays, next week's comic will probably be posted a day early, since I'll be moving back to school on Monday. (not much need to worry about lateness, as I've actually got myself a buffer for once)
